Understanding Changes to the Health and Safety Act

Changes are coming to the Health and Safety Act.

The UK has worked very hard to consider what needs to be changed regarding the current health and safety act.  This topic has recently garnered a lot of attention, considering David Cameron’s speech about red tape.  Numerous experts have been working possible revisions of the act.  It is actually no surprise that they are looking to reduce the number of laws that are a part of the legislation.  Less than 80 years ago, there was a drastic reduction in the number of health and safety laws that existed.  The concept under review by experts would serve to eliminate the unnecessary laws.

It may be an elimination of the complete law or combining certain laws.  The fact is that the need to provide a safe and healthy place to work will not change; what are going to change are the specifics of these guidelines.  The announcement of what will be changed has yet to be made. There is only speculation of certain amendments being removed in the overall repair of the older law.

The Health and Safety Act was introduced in 1974.  It was decided then that regulations that are more modern needed to be in effect based on the current government.  Now that it is 2012, it seems there are those who feel the current law is slightly outdated considering the progress the UK has made in this area.
