Staffordshire resident fined for gas health and safety at work

A man who lives in Staffordshire was prosecuted and fined for impersonating a qualified gas worker. This man put tenants at risk because he did not follow health and safety at work. In fact he did not have proper health and safety training in terms of the gas regulations to be carrying out any gas work. He also was in breach of a legal notice already given to him to prohibit him from doing any gas work. This man provided landlords with gas safety records using a registered ID number, but it was not under his name or on the register list.

He carried out work in 2010 before he was stopped. The work was being conducted at a house that was vacant. It was due to be a tenancy location on Kelvin Avenue prior to the work. He did pipe work for gas appliances, but it was too small. This resulted in the hob burners going out when the boiler was activated. It could have led to an explosion. The man is just lucky no one was in any of the rooms and that the explosion did not occur as it could have. The owner at least recognised that there was a problem so he reported it to the Gas Safe Register. This led to the safety audits by the HSE. The HSE learned the man had done two other pieces of work at different locations. He definitely broke the law according to the evidence.
