Real Health and Safety Means No Hesitation

The HSE is making certain there is no hesitation when it comes to health and safety.

Health and safety at work is a big concern for construction companies.  It is very easy in construction and other similar sectors for workers to be hurt.  Unfortunately, not all companies adhere to the needed safety and health guidelines.  Haz International is one company that was found to be in breach of the regulations.  On routine health and safety audits, it was found that the company breached safety and health measures in 2009.

The case was under investigation for several years.  It was only recently that the Watford Magistrates Court heard the case. They reviewed accounts of how the firm failed to offer proper precautions regarding safety to maintenance workers, in particular about height safety measures in that the workers did not have proper equipment to work at heights.

This is a violation of the Health and Safety Act of 1974.  It is the duty of the employer to make sure there is proper safety and health at work, as much as is reasonable.  Companies that follow proper procedures regarding safety and have the right protective equipment can still be found liable should negligence be a factor.  In the case of Haz International, it is thought that the company did not follow reasonable procedures to ensure the safety of their staff.  Issues such as this continue to concern the HSE, who will continue to issue warnings in an effort to spearhead better safety.
