Proposals to Remove Seven Health and Safety Laws

Talks are still ongoing regarding health and safety laws and statutory regulations that may be removed from the current 1974 Act.  The document recently provided to the public has at least six regulations that may be removed along with one order.  These seven laws are considered redundant or out of date; therefore, there is a proposal to remove them or at least update them to make more sense for the new millennium.

The Anthrax Prevention Order of 1971, updated in 2005 is going to be revoked.  The Employment Medical Advisory Service of 1971 will be amended according to the HSE.  It seems this law is still important to the Health and Safety act, but slightly outdated.

The Health and Safety Regulations 1981 will undergo metrication, allowing for some changes to make it more current.  The Non-ferrous Metals Regulation of 1962 will also be changed or perhaps removed for a better version of the law, given the changes to our industries.  In fact, nanotechnology has become a more important health concern over metals given that most of the technology is changing to nanoparticles.

There are two pottery laws that may undergo several changes or removal.  It is not clear yet whether these laws will be completely removed as pottery is still a booming industry.  Locomotive regulations will also be undergoing some changes in the coming months once the specifics have been narrowed down in the government.  Final decisions will be announced in March.
