Plumber Is In Jail for illegal Work

A case was decided regarding a plumber and illegal work.

A plumber from Suffolk has been jailed.  He is said to have put lives at risk due to some work on domestic gas appliances.  He was not trained for the work and he is now seeing six months in prison.  The plumber admitted to five counts where he breached the health and safety at work act.  He admitted his deeds in the Ipswich Crown Court on February 1st.

The HSE investigated the plumber with several health and safety audits.  They found that he had put gas fittings in homes and worked on appliances at different residences between 2009 and 2010.  He was not registered to work on gas meaning he did not have the proper training to be working on this equipment.  He falsely showed homeowners a registration number on his safety certificates, so he even went so far as to lie about his credentials.

One of the places he worked on was an Indian restaurant. He was judged at this location with regard to being an unqualified engineer.  He was said to represent an immediate danger to others and property.  The gas leak he caused in the restaurant made the owner close the establishment for two days.  He even had a written warning from the HSE about working on gas appliances, but he still ignored it.  Finally, he was charged with breaching the law three times, resulting in the current imprisonment.
