Plans to Cut Health and Safety Could Help Companies

Companies could save an average of £5 with each incident of safety and health with the plans to cut down on the current laws. David Cameron has stated that the red tape is going to be cut down from what it currently is.  This potentially means a company could save £5 with each incident.

The money that will be saved is dependent on how many incidents a business has had to report in a one-year period.  There is a chance of saving about £243,000 between the 4.5 million UK companies.  This is where the £5 figure, a relatively small sum, comes from

The question that many have in mind is whether there will be significant loss in terms of health and safety.  Cameron’s belief is that there is too much red tape in dealing with work related incidents, but this could lead to lax health and safety at work.  The reason there are so many rules right now is for the protection of employees and the public.  Reducing paperwork could mean that employers try to reduce what are actually significant injuries at work.  Cameron stated in a recent interview that they are looking more at the unnecessary bureaucracy wherein serious incidents do need to be investigated, but a minor incident might not require the same scrutiny.
