Norwich Castle health and safety precautions

A team of workers recently erected netting and support structures on the front wall of Norwich Castle.  It was deemed a health and safety risk to leave the grounds as it is for fear objects may fall down and harm a passer-by.  The structures will help keep the 11th century building in place during grass cutting.  The health and safety laws in effect to put up the netting came from a need also to cut the grass around the walls.  The grass was high, but worry that the walls are not as stable as they were centuries ago made officials demand the structures and netting be put in place.  This way, those who work in the area to cut the grass will not have to worry about falling stones or other safety hazards.

It was also a safety measure for anything that might be in the grass.  Sadly, individuals throw trash in this area.  In high grass where it is hard to see anything laying on the ground it is possible for an object to become a missile.  The netting was put up in order to catch anything that might fly up out of the meadow.  Safety concerns over items in the grass being unseen by those who might cut through it was another reason for the netting to be put in place and the grass ordered to be cut.  It was a good move on the HSEs part to prevent health and safety breaches before they happen.
