Manual Industries Set for New Health and Safety Tests

Electronic health and safety courses for manual industries are set to undergo a significant overhaul following the news that a multitude of new topics will be introduced to improve industry practices.

A syllabus featuring additions such as environmental issues and respiratory hazards will now prepare business and employees for tests, CITB-ConstructionSkills revealed on Thursday.

“Consulting with industry experts, we have refreshed the question bank and the test structure to include new sections and questions addressing the changing needs of the whole construction industry both locally and nationally,” CITB-ConstructionSkills Product Delivery Manager Chris Little said.
Little also revealed that the entire spectrum of tests will be taken electronically in the future to ensure the procedures are both user-friendly and flexible for the whole industry.

The ‘Health, Safety, and Environment Exam’ will now underpin the safety laws and regulations set out by Health and Safety Executive. HSE hopes businesses will subsequently improve their knowledge and practices through regular audits.

“[We are] working on behalf of the industry to improve the test, which should be seen as a stepping stone to encourage employers and their workforce to go on and develop their knowledge.

Questions on environmental challenges, respiratory risks, and an entire section of questions relating to recently introduced hazard symbols used prominently in the industrial sector are among the updates to the new online test.
