Lighting supplier requires better health and safety training courses

A lighting supplier in Keighley was fined for safety and health breaches. The staff members of this firm were subjected to hazardous working conditions and exposure to electric and welding fumes that could lead to major health issues. Health and safety audits were conducted by the HSE during an inspection asked for by complaints that were made. They found several issues with the safety and health, including electrical issues. The HSE had to call in specialists to look at all the complaints such as the electrical ones. They also examined the safety management, hygiene issues and much more.

The inspections occurred in 2010 and resulted in five improvement notices being handed out. Seven additional notices were given once the electrical specialist was finished. All of the complaints made were proven to be valid by the HSE. It revealed that those in charge of the lighting company definitely needed better health and safety training courses so they could understand risk management needs. It was not just a mere ignorance of the problems at hand of course. It was also ignoring some of the more dire issues such as hygiene. The firm was fined 8,000 pounds along with 20,000 pounds in court costs.

Before work could continue the lighting company did have to correct any breaches that were cited. The fine might make business difficult, but at least the conditions will be repaired as they should be and work will hopefully be safer from now on.
