Improving Health and Safety Regulations

David Cameron pledges to get rid of the red tape stopping business growth.

David Cameron states the health and safety culture of the United Kingdom needs to change.  He insists that the regulatory culture needs to be changed for good by government, so that business growth can continue.  In his first appearance for 2012, Cameron stated he would start looking for economic growth as a main priority to ensure local authorities are given the help they need to make businesses more effective.

Cameron did say the government made a mistake in one of its first economic growth initiatives.  The national insurance holiday that was introduced in 2010 has been a hampering product and it has not allowed the needed job growth.  The concept was too complicated and therefore it did not work.

Cameron wishes to make better moves for 2012, including changing health and safety regulations.  This may mean changes to the health and safety at work courses available.  His message about health and safety regulations is regarding excessive rules and regulations.  He wants to provide relief to businesses trying to grow.

There are arguments against this.  Some believe more regulation is needed, especially in times of growth so that employees are safe at all times.  The health and safety regulatory office feels the numbers of deaths and major incidents in the last year are still too high.  The HSE is actually hoping for regulations to be enforced to limit the number of incidents in the next year.
