HSE Misses the Mark in Health and Safety

The HSE is the governing body for businesses and personnel that ensures that health and safety at work is being followed.  Yet, it has come to light that this watchdog has missed a few of their own issues.  An internal health and safety audit of the HSE found that it fell short on at least seven out of 11 of its own places regarding safety.

The announcement that even the HSE has failed to provide a safe and healthy environment has businesses and the public quite angry.  In fact, some believe that the HSE can be overzealous when dealing with companies, yet they have just been found to miss issues at their own locations.

One of the areas in which they have failed to protect employees is with regular assessment of staff use of computer monitors.  They have also missed targets in failing to take action on reports and with defensive driver training in the long haul industry.

The conclusion being drawn is that the HSE has an inability to follow their own rules.  This shows that “red tape” is getting in the way.  A few experts believe that the numerous regulations are affecting the HSE, businesses, and the public because even the HSE is unable to act quickly because of the amount of paperwork to be completed and targets to be met.

It is a bid for reformation of safety and health rules in the UK.  Already proposals are in the works, but some feel that it may not be enough.
