Health and safety restrictions lifted for event

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was almost shut down due to safety and health restrictions. The government announced that they have not found any health and safety concerns so the planning can continue for the street party and celebration in the local neighbourhood.  Furthermore, those who are planning similar events are urged to challenge any health and safety restrictions that they have encountered.  The HSE has online tips regarding advice and misconceptions concerning street parties and other safety regulations that may have created issues in the past.  It is a part of their ongoing desire to clear up issues that started with the Myth Busters Challenge Panel a few months ago.

Events can be organised with safety and health in mind.  Street parties and other events have been held for years with little worry or incident involving safety or health.  This is why the HSE is trying to clear up any misunderstandings from councils that have created additional restrictions in recent years.  Obviously, there are some concerns for public safety and health, but these can be reasonably handled with risk assessments and proper emergency planning.  The HSE hopes that they have cleared up most of the understandings and that their online tools will help with any further concerns.  They also hope the upcoming Jubilee will be an example of how an event should be planned with the safety and health of the public in mind.  It is certainly a good event for event planners to learn from.
