Health and Safety Myths Dispelled

During a health and safety visit to Stanlow Refinery, myths were debunked.

A health and safety official visited a refinery, Stanlow, in order to discuss the dangers the refinery may face.  The HSE and the official wanted to focus on some of the myths that have cropped up concerning the red tape of health and safety at the workplace.  The official stated the recent press and the “red tape” focus is giving safety and health in the workplace a bad reputation.

Another visitor accompanying the official highlighted many of the real risks that could occur and that precipitate workplace accidents, especially in the industry of refining and the chemical industry.  One of the visitors has worked in the chemical industry for 30 years so she is an expert at what to focus on with regard to safety and health.  She highlighted a number of hazards and risks that need to be attended to in order to avoid work place accidents, injuries, or deaths.

The HSE and those involved with safety and health want to see workers staying safe on the job.  They are experts who have conducted risk assessments.  The meeting at Stanlow Refinery is just one of the many visitations that will take place to ensure that all workers are trained properly.  Regardless of the industry an individual works in, there are always risks at the workplace, so training has to fit in with any industry.
