Health and safety issue at care home

The HSE will need to look into a new case involving a 94 year old woman and a recent incident at her care home.  The great grandmother has sustained quite a few injuries after falling out of her bed at the care home.  She was rushed to the hospital for her severe injuries.  The family is claiming that there was a ban on using side bars on the bed.  Since the side bars were not up she ended up falling out of bed.  It may be a myth that side bars are banned from being used.  This seems likely considering the side bars on the beds for health and safety purposes, but there is one thing for certain.  The side bars were not used on this grandmother’s bed leaving her face injured from the fall.

The HSE will conduct health and safety audits to determine what happened during the incident and if this is a common issue in this particular nursing facility.  The elderly especially those who are in their 90s require help.  They depend on the care workers to make certain they are safe during sleep, when they are awake and for their daily living.  If such incidents continue to occur, it will definitely warrant further study by the HSE.  The fact is that safety and health anywhere is important.  This is why there are regulations in place for safety such as bars on hospital and care home beds for elderly and others to be protected.
