Health and Safety Executive dispels Blu-tack myth

Before the Myth Busters Panel, there was a rumour going around that blue tack, used to put up pictures on walls and glass, could make glass explode.  There was an order that all pictures be removed at schools from windows due to this safety concern.  The panel has since debunked this health and safety myth proving that it is actually safe to use blue tack on any surface including glass and allowing homeowners and schools to return to putting up pictures on the glass.  The team stated there is no reason to stifle children’s delight with health and safety concerns that are unfounded.

This myth is just one in a slew of health and safety myths that were debunked recently.  One of the other myths that made its way recently to the public was about a council requiring a structural engineer to check flower baskets that anyone wanted to hang from lampposts.   Another had a council that made a mother take down the swing she installed for her children.

There are serious health and safety issues such as those at the work place.  The regulations that exist need to be followed, but using the slightest issue to create a safety and health issue is something the HSE and Myth Busters wants to stop.  Using safety and health laws incorrectly will only anger the public and even make some fail to follow the actual regulations because they are tired of all the silly issues that have occurred before.
