Health and Safety Emphasis on Construction Sites

Construction sites located in Dorset are going to be subjected to health and safety audits.  The HSE is looking to reduce any injuries, death, or illness that may occur on sites in Dorset.  Inspectors from the HSE will be visiting sites throughout the county in order to examine the area for health and safety.  In particular, sites where repair or refurbishment work is going on will be examined.  The move is to place national emphasis on safety and health standards by making certain each borough is adhering to the rules.

Just last year Dorset construction sites had 29 major injuries reported.  Construction is also one of the most dangerous employment sectors given all of the machines, heights, and other dangers.  The HSE is making certain that poor standards and any unacceptable behaviour is caught before it leads to an incident.

The refurbishment industry tends to be the one area of the construction industry that has the worst record and the most risky situations.  Simple changes can often mean stopping major injuries before they happen.  The HSE official stated that they would take strong action if there were any employee risk found.

The HSE is hoping with this statement that any issues on job sites right now will be fixed and remain fixed, so that the audits are clean and show that construction owners and managers are listening to the safety and health regulations they need to follow to protect their employees.
