Health and Safety Concerns Follow Death at the Workplace

A man has died at Cemex Rugby Plant. It is the New Year and now there is a death at a workplace.  The HSE will have to do health and safety audits to determine what occurred and why.  During the investigation, they will look at whether the death was accidental and if it could have been prevented.  The incident occurred at the plant on Lawford Road.  West Midlands Ambulance Service arrived to give the man CPR and treat the head injury, but unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead.

A second man was also injured in the incident.  As of yet, nothing has been released as to what occurred during this tragic incident.  Such a death helps remind us why health and safety is important.  It also begs the question as to whether other companies need to look at their current health and safety training courses and make a few changes to prevent a similar accident from occurring at their location.

At this point, there is no reason to think it was Cemex’s fault.  Speculation is not even a consideration here, but the incident is a reminder of what all companies need to consider with regard to risk assessment.  To avoid any more deaths at the workplace in 2012, companies do need to be vigilant and ensure that all workers follow the necessary protocols.  Safety and health may begin with risk assessments, but it is the workers that can truly make work safe by adhering to health and safety rules.
