Health and Safety Concern with Derby Velodrome Plans

The HSE has concerns about gas storage.

There is gas storage near Pride Park development that could lead to major risks.  The HSE is currently conducting health and safety audits to determine what might be done concerning the risks posed.  The plans for the Velodrome are not final and neither is the objection from the HSE.  They are just asking for more time to consider public safety to make certain that the plans will not offer any risk they have not accounted for.

The HSE is looking for what would be considered unacceptable risks.  It means the facility for petrol storage may need to move slightly in order to be within proper health and safety regulations.  The Environment Agency is also going to do their own research to determine if things need to change according to the most recent plans up for discussion.  Risk to life and vehicles are the areas of greatest concern.

The petrol storage facility combined with the Velodrome is the concern. The storage facility is already in place, so the park and the arena may be an issue if built too close; after all, the facility will host at least 5,000 people when full.  The arena will be £20 million in construction and it would host several major events throughout the year if the plans were allowed to continue.  The Derby Council is going to decide on the planning application in spring, so there is time for risk assessments to be conducted.
