Drax Fined for Health and Safety Injury to Worker

Drax Power Station has been fined for injury to a worker.

A worker at Drax Power Station is still alive, though it seems a great deal of luck has been a part of his survival.  The worker was injured after 13kg of weight was dropped four metres from a crane.  The package landed on his foot, which may explain his incredible survival.  A different location may have resulted in a very tragic outcome. Fortunately, the worker is alive, but Drax has been cited with health and safety breaches due to the incident.

Drax will have to pay £13,300, as will Konecranes UK LTD since they were also responsible for the issue.  The incident happened in 2010.  It seems the health and safety audits conducted found clear-cut evidence that both companies were in violation of the applicable safety and health laws since there was a quick resolution.  It can take several years for cases to finally reach a court decision when it involves worker injury or death.  The quick resolution will most likely bring a measure of satisfaction to the injured worker; given the need for his foot to be healed over a long duration.

Drax stated they regretted the injury very much given that it could have been avoided.  The worker has made a full recovery and is back at work.  This positive outcome is certainly wonderful and the company is happy nothing more serious occurred.
