Contractor fined needs health and safety consultants

A contractor was fined for violations on a construction site in Edgware.  The fine came after health and safety auditsA routine inspection of the site showed dangerous working conditions.  The HSE found some workers at three metres above the ground without any safety measures in places.  It was clear there were health and safety at work violations, since any work from height needs to be assessed and managed with proper security measures to prevent falls.  The HSE was at the site for their annual target programme to ensure all construction sites comply with safety.  The issue occurred in 2010, but has now reached the court for a judgement to be provided.

At the time, a notice to prohibit work until the issue was fixed was given.  It was provided to the principal contractor at the site.  The inspector who provided the notice went back that same day to see work had not been stopped but had resumed without any changes to the site for work at height issues.  This failure to comply with the notice brought Doru Construction to court.  They pled guilty to the charges.  The fine is £2,000 with £1,500 in court costs.  Any construction company can save on fines by simply following proper work from height procedures.  They can also save on accident costs and preventing incidents by providing proper safety and health on site, no matter what site they happen to be working on.
