Construction worker death an issue of health and Safety

Court heard case of construction worker death.

Construction is one of the main industries where deaths occur at an alarming rate.  There are many reasons for this.  There are height issues, machinery, and heavy objects that can cause death while on the job.  One construction worker is no longer in this world due to breaches with health and safety.  A court case was heard regarding JN Bentley, a construction company in Skipton.

A 23 year old was killed on the job due to a workplace accident.  It was the ruling of the HSE that proper workstation risk assessments were not conducted.  The company pleaded guilty to the issue stating they did not provide proper training or assessments.  The young man was injured on the job in 2007 working at a construction site.  He later died from the injury.  The construction workers were using an excavator hired for the work.  The equipment was being used to move cement bags on a wooden pallet.  One of the bags fell off and when the worker attempted to save the pallet before it fell completely the jaws of the machine closed around his head.

He was taken to the hospital, but the injuries were too severe and he later died after being put on life support.  It was a tough situation for his family to be in and according to the guilty plea something that should have been avoided with proper training and work place assessments.
