Businesses Urged to Examine Health and Safety Training

There has been a lot of talk about health and safety for 2012. It is also important to remember that health and safety at work is always important.  It does not matter what year it is; safety and health at the workplace is paramount.  Businesses need to focus on their protocols and make certain their employees are properly trained.

Businesses in the UK may be at risk if they do not focus on safety and health.  Employees can be at risk without the proper training.  For example, consider hiring new employees but not training them about your cleaning supplies, or worse, inaccurately training them.  It happens all the time.  Your office or business may have cleaning staff that comes in at night, so you might consider cleaning supplies as a secondary consideration, but what happens if there is a spill during the daytime work hours?  Perhaps the staff members need to get a mop and some cleaner to get the spill.

What would happen if they grab the wrong products?  Perhaps the mop was used with the right product and is not dry when the employee makes up water with a cleaning agent and puts the mop in it.  Suddenly the chemicals react to each other and create an incident where the employee is not able to work for a few weeks.  Things such as this are considered during risk management assessment plans, in which you examine risks that might exist and train in order to prevent them.
