Waste removal guidelines causing issues

The HSE announced that there will be a new booklet with waste removal guidelines for the UK.  They want to make waste removal more clear, such as how to handle recyclables since there is a growing need to recycle materials rather than just dumping them in the landfill as we used to do. The booklet is also going into detail about the health and safety at work information needed to handle recyclables safely.  Recyclables can be dangerous given the large vehicles that are needed to do the sorting.  With sorting machines to make certain that paper, plastic, and cans go in the right areas, there is a high potential for a worker to be injured on the job.

Manual removal guidelines for health and safety training are also a part of the new booklet that can be used by those recycling or for the recycling facility.  Some of the techniques use the manual removal options where a worker has to pick items out of the line to make certain they go to the right bin.

Some of the safety techniques are more about plant blockages where the machine might be blocked due to the green waste.  In this case, the worker has to approach the machine with safety in mind so as not to be injured.  There are risk assessments that also have to be conducted to make certain workers will be safe.  The booklet might be specific to the industry, but for those who recycle they can make it a little easier on the companies.
