Warwickshire and Coventry Workplace Injury Statistics Revealed

As 2011 is at a close, the HSE is looking at workplace injury stats.

The HSE has reviewed several counties in the UK for their workplace injury and death statistics in order to experience better results in 2012.  Laws may be enacted or changed in the near future laws, or at least more health and safety at work will be demanded.

The numbers are not showing a decrease following the last year in Warwickshire and Coventry.  For 2011, there were 229 major injuries and 110 major injuries respectively.  An additional 922 workers were injured or in ill health for 2011 causing at least three days to be taken off of work per worker.  This is slightly lower than the year before where there were 1030 injuries.  Still, the numbers are high enough to be causing alarm.

The HSE is looking to make certain that the death rates are lowered in many council areas.  They also want to ensure all injuries are lowered because there are methods to ensure that risk assessment is performed.  Accidents can be avoided if the risk assessment will protect the workers properly.  Given that the HSE just conducted health and safety audits to find these numbers, there may not be another audit at certain locations for some time; however, employers and their employees cannot lower their guard.  The HSE is serious about lowering the numbers in the coming year. They will continue to look at workplaces and any injury reports seriously.
