School closure due to health and safety issue

Furness School in Hextable has been closed temporarily for safety issues.  The directors of the school have concerns for the health and safety of the students.  The current situation at the school could harm the wellbeing of students.  The school, located near Swanley, is a special type of school because it caters to students with emotional or behavioural difficulties.  They offer boarding and day student options.

The Kent County Council has taken over the management of the school due to the health and safety issues recently found.  The director stated that the school has been closed until June 11 to help address the undisclosed issues of safety and health found recently.  Students in their 11th year will still be able to take exams as the school planned.  It just means the school is closed to normal operations and current boarding students until the safety issues can be fixed.  There are around 68 students at the school right now.  Families are being kept up to date with the school closure so that students will be able to come back as soon as things are in place and ready.  Families are also going to be getting changes in the way student updates are sent, so that families are more aware of what their students are doing and how their education is progressing.  The council hopes this will alleviate any further concerns since it is important for families to be involved in their student’s lives.
