Herefordshire Health and Safety Event Coming Up

Farmers are being told to attend a Herefordshire safety event that is coming up soon.  Though it is not a mandatory requirement for farmers to attend the health and safety conference, there are several references as to why farmers should attend.Farming is one of the most dangerous industries in the world, including farming in the UK.  There has been a lot of machinery invented to make the job of farming easier, but it has also meant more dangers are found on farms.  The safety and health and awareness day is being organised by the HSE for Herefordshire College.  The conference will be set up on the 14th February.  The SHADs awareness conference is designed to cut the number of injuries and deaths that occur on farms.

About 95% of the approximately 1300 area farmers attended last year, and they stated they would recommend the health and safety at work events to others.  These farmers felt there were definitely lessons to be learned with regard to potential accidents that can happen on the job.  Fatalities in agriculture account for one in five of the deaths that occur at workplaces in the UK.  This is rather high, considering only 1.5% of the population actually works in agriculture.  Practical demonstrations, maintenance of farm equipment, and safe use of the equipment are some of the topics that will be discussed at the conference.  Working at heights and handling of livestock will also be on the topic of discussion.
