Health and Safety Issues Loom for Tanker Drivers

Tanker drivers are still talking about striking over the regulation changes.  They have every right to be upset over the changes that could create a health and safety issue.  The question weighing on many minds is whether the strike will actually happen or if the health and safety worries can be solved without a strike.  A Wiltshire company called Wincanton has issued a statement asking the tanker drivers not to strike.  The decision is to be stated by five pm today.

Union Unite has rejected the last proposal with changes for the safety and health issue including what to do about pensions and training.  The rejection has led to renewed discussions about a strike being imminent.  It did not happen over Easter weekend because there was an agreement to cease until after the holiday. Now that the holiday is over, there are definitely concerns that the strike will happen.

If there is a strike, the fuel will not make it to the fuel pumps.  It could create a massive issue for drivers trying to get to work or fill up.  Stations may also increase prices as the fuel becomes lower and lower.  It could be a matter of a national crisis if there is a strike.  The hope is that something will break in the talks to stop any strike from happening.  It does not look good if proposals are being rejected though, and a decision on striking is needed in a few hours.
