Health and safety closes Royal Mail at London location

A post box in Stoke has been shut down for health and safety reasons. Royal Mail will not collect anything from the post box, though it has been in the area for 60 years. Residents were rather stunned to find out that the London Road box would no longer be used for health and safety reasons.  Residents will need to go further, such as to Chamberlain Avenue or Church Street, to put mail in a post box.  Apparently, many residents still use “snail mail” and wonder why the box has been termed a health and safety issue.

Royal Mail stated that their company has been working towards removing the post box from service because it is not a suitable or safe location to collect mail from any longer.  Customers are being told that Royal Mail feels they will be served just as well with the Sainsbury’s stone on the corner of Bath Street in addition to other locations.  This is one of the closest indoor post box locations.  Despite Royal Mail’s insistence that it is for the better, many residents are still angry that they must walk farther and are asking for the post box to be reopened.  Many have stated that the box could be made safer and therefore they would not have to walk as far.  From all of the comments it does seem that the post box is well used and that many are unhappy with its closure.
