Health and Safety Chief and Teacher Defy Red Tape

There is a huge debate in the UK right now regarding safety and health in the workplace.  A teacher and safety chief have decided to show that red tape is not as big of any issue as it has been made out to be.  An HSE chief visited a Welsh school to see one of the teachers there.  Both the teacher and chief are now working together to show that health and safety can be managed with the current laws as long as everyone is willing to do their part.

Health and safety training is a primary requirement to ensuring that everyone is safe including the public.  Those who say the safety and health legislation is in the way do not understand its function, according to some in the heated debate.  The teacher works in the school’s construction/mechanical department offering lessons on various machines.  The safety chief visited a lesson on Roman siege machines wherein science and teamwork was able to beat “brute force.”  The children in class were able to create their own machines before heading out to the tennis courts to fling tennis balls across the yard.

Before taking the students out, the teacher went over health and safety rules.  The experiments would not have been as important or effective without discussing rules ahead of time and letting the students know what types of risks could occur.  The experiments and the safety inspector’s visit were a success.
