Exercise Referral Project for health and safety

There is a new Exercise Referral Project set up to keep adults more active.  It is a partnership project started by the Irish College of GPs, the HSE, and Institute for Leisure and Amenity Management. Adults can receive a referral letter to the local exercise co-ordinator at a leisure facility to get adults a 12-week pass into the exercise programme.

This programme relates to overall health and safety based on statistics and common sense.  Statistics have shown in various studies that a healthier individual will come to work and be safer when working than one who is not as healthy.  It is easy to find a study to support this statement through online health websites, but it is also a common sense statement.  Anyone who feels better will be able to focus on work.  A person with constant headaches, shaking hands, or any type of pain finds it harder to focus thus workplace accidents can happen to them more readily despite any health and safety training they have on machines and equipment.

A person well rested with a healthy and exercised body will have less pain.  There is a lower chance of being sleepy or distracted while working.  Additionally, when rested your brain tends to function better.  It will not feel tired and your synapses will fire better.  Health studies from many countries have supported these facts, so it may be in your best interest to see if the exercise referral project will help you become healthier for a better work performance.
