Construction Sites Still Being Scrutinised for Health and Safety

The HSE is continuing with their battle against improper health and safety at work.  The HSE will focus their efforts on London construction areas with the goal of reducing injury, illness, and death. The organisation will monitor construction sites between February 20th and March 16th, just in the London area.  Other areas of the UK are also receiving attention in the month long bid to lower risks at work and improve standards.

Construction is ranked as one of the most dangerous industries concerning working on sites.  In a one year period, eight workers were killed and more than 400 workers were injured at work just in the London area.  It is one of the reasons health and safety at construction sites is being targeted recently.

Sites are subject to dangers from a variety of things such as power tools, machines, heights, and cleanliness of the sites.  All of the factors that can cause accidents will be focused on by the HSE.  The refurbishment sector is one of the most dangerous when it comes to construction, but all sites will see a visit.

An official of the HSE stated that poor management of the dangers is the leading cause of incidents in the past and it is unacceptable.  They are going to ensure that managers and workers are aware of the dangers and the strong actions the HSE will take should any unnecessary risk be found on the sites they visit.  It is a clear warning to ensure safety.
